Happy September from Drs. Jacobs, Steckenrider & staff!
It’s hard to miss all the new faces in Blacksburg this month–and we want to introduce you to ours!
This is our newest staff member, Terri, whom we mentioned last month. We’re excited to have her on the team! Now, here’s a face to go with the name – and a baby face to go with the grown-up one who’ll greet you when you come in the office.
We love talking about wellness and how the eyes, body and brain are connected, and how what we take into our bodies affects everything. This one’s not directly related to the eyes, but too good not to share. From the “Wishing it were so” and “Everything in moderation” departments – dark chocolate may reduce depression risk, and so may red wine!! Check it out and let us know what YOU think 😊
On the other end of the spectrum, here’s an unusual case of a teenager who began to go blind after eating nothing but fries, chips and meat. A word of caution towards what can happen if there is no moderation. Please, eat well!!
Technology keeps moving ahead. Researchers have created an “Eye on a Chip”, complete with blinking eyelid, to model how Dry Eye Disease develops and how to treat it. Next, maybe they can get it to read and respond to emails and text while you sleep!!
Not to be outdone by human technology, maybe these little critters can help you color coordinate your outfit for the next day!!
Finally–don’t miss Dr. J’s article in NRV Magazine on how the health of your eyes affects the health of everything else in your body!
