Happy June from Drs. Jacobs, Steckenrider & staff!
Happy Father’s Day! Congrats to all the grads! Summer is almost here… and we are SO excited to welcome the newest member of our team, Dr. Jennifer Steckenrider!
Dr. S will begin seeing patients here on June 17th. Hailing from Peru, Indiana, she is a graduate of Taylor University, and recently received her Doctorate in Optometry at Indiana University School of Optometry, where she graduated first in her class – always a good sign!! Her passion for eye care developed during an undergrad semester abroad in Ecuador, where she witnessed the profound impact it can have on people’s lives. While in Optometry School she received numerous awards for academic excellence, service, and leadership. In addition to optometry, Dr. Steckenrider enjoys painting, golfing, going on bike rides, and spending time with family. She and the love of her life (ie. her husband, a VT PhD student) volunteer in the community and attend Harvest Baptist Church in Blacksburg.
Dr. Steckenrider is driven by the belief that the learning process never ends. It is her lifelong goal to maintain a humble attitude, while striving to learn and stay current in order to provide the best possible patient care. Doesn’t get much better than that!
Here’s an article that’s not directly related to eye-health, but definitely connected to behavior and the brain! Did you know that broccoli sprouts may help in control of schizophrenia? Keep those plates full of veggies!!
It’s great for health – mental, physical, emotional, spiritual – to spend time outside – and for kids, it may help prevent nearsightedness!! But don’t be foolish with risks! Always wear your bike helmets!
Rocketman, a semi-surreal movie about Elton John is just out. Sir Elton is synonymous with outrageous eyewear (among other things). Now, you can see what you’d look like in some of his fantastical styles. Be careful though–the app is pretty addicting! We hope you have a fabulous month of June! Feel free to drop by and meet Dr. S sometime, if you’re in the neighborhood. And don’t worry, we’ll be getting a new logo soon 😉
